Welcome to Sunningdale Parish Council

Sunningdale Parish Council in 2012. At the beginning of the year Council sets its budget for the year starting April and we are pleased to announce that there will be no increase in Precept for Parish Council work though the range of activities continues to grow. This year we plan to hold a Music Festival for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on 4th June; there will be a Diamond Jubilee Parish Walk on 29th April; and the work of volunteers in the Big Society Friends of Sunningdale continues to grow.

Preparing the Neighbourhood Plan will be a major part of our work which will culminate in a referendum when residents can have their say on where the houses of the future can go and how we best meet the needs of a growing population in our community. We also plan to produce another Official Guide for Sunningdale when the Neighbourhood Plan is complete to give you the outline of the plan.

We are looking for another Councillor to make the team up to ten, and ready to help make things happen in our community. Please contact Anne Martin if you want more information on what the work of Councillor entails.

Winter Services

RBWM has announced its winter services for 2011-2012 to cope with bad weather, particularly snow and ice.

For information on gritting, see the lists of primary and secondary roads in the area.

Advice is available on clearing snow from pavements yourself and general winter safety tips.

The location of salt bins that are provided by the Borough can be found here. The Parish Council is responsible for maintaining the following salt bins: Park Crescent, Sidbury Close junction with Church Road and Broomhall Rec.

Sustainable Sunningdale - Climate Week will take place from March 12th to March 18th this year. Find out more information on its website. The focus in Sunningdale will be to promote Recycle Bank so that every resident knows more about the points they can earn from recycling into the Blue bins, how to redeem their points and in doing so join the collective actions to lower our carbon footprint by reducing our use of new resources.

Community Garden Update
The winter leek crop has been excellent. If you have leeks then try to eat them by the end of February as they will start to go woody around that time. Some manure has been obtained and this will be incorporated into the soil during winter digging which will commence shortly. Here is a summary of winter jobs in the vegetable and fruit garden. You are welcome to visit the garden at any time to see how it is progressing.

Localism Act. The Localism Bill was given Royal Assent on November 15th, 2011 and is now an Act.
The Act intends to hand power to local people for planning and development decisions in their area through initiatives such as neighbourhood plans and the community right to build.

Decentralisation minister Greg Clark said: "The Localism Bill is unashamedly pro-growth. Everything within it is designed to unlock the barriers to growth that have led to a crisis in development, with housebuilding at its lowest level in any peacetime year since 1924."

The Parish Council is implementing this through the community-led Neighbourhood Plan process.
